Awesome app at at awesome price.
First, Id like to say that the the app is solid; it doesnt crash and it doesnt freeze. Although, I have ran into a few issues when saving loops within the app, but not too many.
The app is nice in that it allows you some room to experiment with the attack, decay, and volume of each sample. This might seem like a limited amount of signal processing, but with the 8 bit drum samples, it goes a long way. The app allows you to export your compositions as WAV files, so further editing of your tracks is easy in Logic, Pro Tools, or whatever DAW you prefer. Also, the tempo selector within 8 Bit Drummer is accurate and syncs perfectly with outside software.
There are a few downsides, but they are all completely forgiviable thanks to the awesome price point. 8 Bit Drummer only accommodates 6 tracks, edits in a 16th note format only, and its unchangeable, default time signature is 4/4. It does not allow you to add any sort of swing to your compositions, but the apps ability to export your loops as WAV files allows you to edit them to your hearts content in your prefered DAW. You cant use 8 Bit Drummer as a VST plug-in, but I wouldnt want to use the software in that manner regardless.
Overall, if you want to compose 8 bit music, this easy to use software will put you on your way instantly. It doesnt crash, it sounds great, and its only three bucks. VoidBred has made a great little piece of software!
